Mobile app action

Reward customers once for a moment that matters in your mobile app: their first login, or turning on notifications.

This feature is available for the Ultimate plan, and currently works with Shopney only.

What is "Mobile app action"?

A Mobile app action program rewards a customer when your Shopney app reports that they completed an action. Joy gives each customer the reward once per program.

Two actions are available:

  • First login in the app: the customer logs in to your app for the first time. Customers who installed the app before you turned the program on are rewarded at their next login.
  • Turn on notifications: the customer turns on notifications for your app. Only a granted permission is rewarded.

You switch it on yourself. No support request is needed.

How to set up this feature

1

Connect Shopney

Follow Joy and Shopney to generate your App ID and Secret key in Settings → Developers and paste them into Shopney.

2

Add the program

Go to Reward programs → Custom Program → Trigger action → Mobile app action. You can also start from the Earning programs card on the Shopney integration page, where each action shows Not set up, On or Off with a Set up or Edit button.

3

Choose the action to reward

Under Action to reward, pick First login in the app or Turn on notifications. Each action can have one active program at a time. Saving a second active program for the same action shows "An active Mobile app action program already exists for this action. Turn it off or edit it instead."

4

Add your store links (First login only)

Add an App Store link, a Google Play link, or both. At least one is required, and each must start with https://.

5

Set the reward and turn the program on

Set the rule name, the reward and, if you want, the start and end dates. Until your app sends its first event, the form shows "Waiting for the first event from your app". After that it shows Connected with the app's name.

What customers see

  • First login in the app appears in Ways to earn on your website as an invitation to download the app, with a badge for each store link you added. A click opens the link and never earns points. The customer is rewarded in the app.
  • Turn on notifications is hidden on your website. Customers are rewarded in your app only.

How rewards work

  • Once per customer, per program. The same action a second time does not reward again. If you delete the program and create a new one, customers who were already rewarded can be rewarded again by the new program.
  • Notification permission must be granted. A customer who has not turned notifications on is not rewarded. Points are not taken back if they turn notifications off later.
  • Same rules as other earning programs. The reward follows the program's start and end dates, your store's overall earning limit, and the same email, tier and webhook steps as any other earning.
  • Not everyone is eligible. Customers who are excluded or B2B customers are not rewarded. A store in test mode rewards test customers only. If your store requires customers to join the program, the customer must have joined first.

Frequently asked questions

Which apps does Mobile app action work with?

Shopney only, for now. The option reads "Currently works with Shopney only."

Why is Mobile app action locked?

It needs the Ultimate plan. On a lower plan the option is disabled and shows a plan badge. If a program is saved on a plan without it, Joy shows "Mobile app actions are available on the Ultimate plan. Upgrade to activate this program."

Do I need to contact support to turn it on?

No. Any Ultimate store can set it up from Reward programs or from the Shopney integration page.

A customer logged in to my app but got no reward. Why?

Check these in order: the program is on, today is inside its start and end dates, the customer was not rewarded before, the customer is not excluded or a B2B customer, and the customer has joined the program if your store requires it. A store in test mode rewards test customers only.

Can I reward the same action again?

Not for the same customer and program. Creating a new program for the action rewards customers again, because the once-per-customer record belongs to the program.

What happens if I revoke my secret key?

Every integration using that key disconnects, including mobile app rewards. Joy warns you before you revoke. Paste the new key into Shopney to reconnect.
