Opt-in enrollment
Require customers to click Join Program before they become loyalty members — for an intent-based member list you can segment and target.
This feature is available on the Advanced plan and above.
This page covers turning on Customer opt-in. For the full picture — how enrollment works, what customers see, and FAQs — see Member enrollment.
What it is
Customer opt-in is one of the three modes in the Membership enrollment card (Settings → General). Instead of enrolling everyone automatically, customers must click Join Program on your storefront before they become members — giving you an intent-based member list you can segment and target.
How to turn it on
Go to Settings → General → Membership enrollment
The card asks "How do customers become loyalty members?".
Select Customer opt-in and save
Once saved, customers must click Join Program on your storefront to become members.
(Optional) Auto-tag members on join
Selecting Customer opt-in shows a link to Settings → Additional features → Auto-tag customers, where members get a single tag you can use to segment in Shopify, email tools, and member-only deals.
Customer opt-in and the Exclude B2B customers filter are independent — you can run both together. The mode decides how customers join; the filter decides who is eligible.
How it behaves
Where the Join Program button appears, what logged-in vs guest shoppers experience, whether existing members are affected, and the sign-up reward on join are all covered in Member enrollment.
